Trimly vs. buying your own robot mower

The short answer: buying a robot mower means owning a four-figure machine you map, maintain, and repair yourself. Trimly is the service version — we install, own, and maintain a GPS-guided, wire-free mower on your lawn for a flat monthly price. Prefer to own anyway? We sell and service those too.

Owning it vs. subscribing to it

 Trimly subscriptionBuying your own
Upfront costNone — the mower, install, and GPS mapping are part of the subscriptionYou buy the hardware up front; capable GPS models are a four-figure purchase
Ongoing costFlat monthly plan by lot size ($139–$789/month) covering maintenance, repairs, and monitoringNo subscription, but blades, batteries, parts, and your time are on you
Install & boundary mappingTrimly technicians survey the lot and build the GPS map, no-go zones, and channels for youYou walk the boundary, tune zones, and debug missed patches yourself
When it breaksRemote monitoring catches faults; Trimly's Mower Medic repairs or swaps the unitWarranty claims, shipping the unit off, or DIY part swaps — lawn grows while you wait
Blade & battery upkeepIncluded — technicians handle blades and wear parts on scheduleYours to track and replace
Staying currentFleet hardware is Trimly's problem — units get maintained, updated, and replaced as neededYou own this year's model; upgrading means buying again or reselling
OwnershipYou never own hardware — it's a service, like not owning the cell towerThe mower is yours: an asset you control, no recurring bill
CommitmentNo contracts — cancel anytime and we pick the mower upNone beyond the purchase, but the purchase is the commitment

Hardware prices vary by model and season — see current models and prices in our store. Subscription plans are on the pricing page.

When buying your own makes sense

  • You enjoy the tinkering. Mapping zones, tuning cut schedules, and maintaining the machine is genuinely satisfying if that's your idea of a hobby.
  • You're outside our service area. Trimly operates in seven Upstate SC counties (Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens, Laurens, Cherokee, York) — beyond that, ownership is the option.
  • Long-horizon cash math. If you'll happily do your own blades, batteries, and repairs for years, owning can pencil out cheaper in raw dollars.

And it isn't either/or: Trimly sells robot mowers, offers lease-to-buy, and can maintain a mower you already own.
