Robot Mower: Buy Outright or Subscribe? Here's the Real Cost

If you're researching robot lawn mowers in Upstate South Carolina, you'll run into two options at Trimly.

You can subscribe — pay a flat monthly rate and let us handle everything. Or you can buy a Segway Navimow at 5% off retail, and Trimly installs and maps it for you.

Both paths get a robot mowing your yard daily. But the costs work out very differently.

Here's what each option actually costs, with real numbers.

Option 1: Trimly Subscribe

With a Subscribe plan, you pay a fixed monthly fee. That's it.

Trimly owns the Navimow robot mower. We install it, map your yard, and maintain it throughout the season. If something breaks, we fix it or replace it. Blades, re-mapping, tech support — all included.

Current Subscribe prices:

| Yard Size | Sqft Range | Monthly | |---|---|---| | Small | Up to 6,534 sq ft | $139/mo | | Standard | 6,535–10,890 sq ft | $199/mo | | Large | 10,891–21,780 sq ft | $279/mo |

No upfront cost. No hardware to buy. No repair bills.

Option 2: Trimly Owned

With Trimly Owned, you buy the mower.

We offer Segway Navimow models at 5% below the manufacturer's retail price. Trimly then installs it and maps your yard. The mower is yours from day one.

Current models we install:

| Model | Covers | Retail | Your Price | |---|---|---|---| | Navimow i206 AWD | Up to 0.15 acre | $999 | $949 | | Navimow i210 AWD | Up to 0.25 acre | $1,299 | $1,234 | | Navimow i215 LiDAR | Up to 0.37 acre | $1,599 | $1,519 |

Add Trimly's installation and yard mapping fee. After that, your main ongoing cost is replacement blades — about $15–$20 every few months.

You can also add a Trimly maintenance plan if you want ongoing service without a full Subscribe plan.

The Break-Even Math

Let's look at a typical Upstate SC yard: around 8,700 sq ft. That's a standard suburban lot.

With Subscribe: $199 per month

With Owned: $1,234 for the Navimow i210 AWD (5% off $1,299), plus installation and mapping

The mower alone costs the same as a little over six months of Subscribe payments. Once you pass that point, your monthly cost of ownership drops to almost nothing. Blade sets are the main expense.

Three-year comparison for a standard yard:

  • Trimly Subscribe: $199 × 36 months = $7,164
  • Trimly Owned: ~$1,234 + installation + ~$120 in blades = roughly $1,500–$1,700 total

If you plan to stay in your home for more than a year or two, buying beats subscribing on total cost. It's not close.

What Subscribe Covers That Owned Doesn't

When you subscribe, Trimly owns the hardware and carries the risk.

  • Mower replacement: If your unit fails outside of normal wear, we handle it.
  • All maintenance visits: We come out and fix it — no service call fee.
  • No surprises: One flat monthly price covers everything.

With Owned, you own the mower. The Navimow comes with a manufacturer warranty. Trimly offers maintenance support as an add-on, but long-term hardware repairs after the warranty period are your responsibility.

Which Option Makes Sense for You?

Choose Trimly Subscribe if:

  • You want zero upfront cost
  • You never want to think about maintenance or repairs
  • You want Trimly to own the risk if something breaks

Choose Trimly Owned if:

  • You want to own the mower outright
  • You plan to stay in your home for several years
  • You're comfortable holding the long-term maintenance responsibility

Both options include professional installation and full yard mapping. Both get you a robot mowing your lawn every day without you lifting a finger.
